Case Study · Mark's Journey on BlockWill

From setup to controlled release.

Step 01

Two vaults, assigned

Mark creates two vaults, a UK vault and a UAE vault, and assigns stakeholders for both: Maya, Andy, Mahmud and the children.

Step 02

Intent & exclusions

One DigiWish per vault. Assets left out (crypto, email/phone passwords, personal docs) go straight to James's Legacy Vault.

Step 03

Continuity configured

VaultRelay set to a 6-month inactivity timer and a Dead Man's Switch dated 31 Dec 2030.

Step 04

Ceremony & wills

YubiKeys handed to Maya, James, John & Diana, witnessed by Andy. UK will + DIFC will uploaded on BlockWill to prevent tampering.

Step 05 · THE EVENT

Incapacitation triggered

6 months on, Mark is in a coma. Andy executes 'incapacitation', and the controlled release begins.

After the 24-hour cool-down, all asset information is released into the Legacy Vaults of Maya, James, John & Diana, together with the DigiWish documents and Mark's KYC details. Four Certificates of Immutability (2 DigiWish for the UK & UAE vaults, plus the UK and DIFC wills) stand as immutable proof.

Five clearly defined, least-privilege roles make it work.

Each role sees only what it requires, and every action is logged.

Owner

Holds the vault and grants every other role. Sets what exists, who inherits and when access is released, with full visibility and a complete log of every action.

Asset Manager

maintains the living registry
  • Delegated by the owner to add and update assets
  • Scoped per vault (e.g. one manager per jurisdiction)
  • Cannot view beneficiary mappings or release triggers
  • Every change is logged

Executor

governs the release event
  • Confirms the triggering event: death, incapacity or missing
  • Initiates VaultRelay release
  • Primary and secondary Executors supported
  • Actions are logged and subject to the cool-down period

Beneficiary

receives their inheritance
  • Receives only the assets and instructions meant for them
  • Information lands in their personal Legacy Vault
  • Direct assignments possible (e.g. specific assets to one heir)
  • Receives the DigiWish document and owner KYC on release

Guardian

stewards a minor beneficiary's share
  • Nominated for a minor beneficiary
  • Receives and holds the minor's information securely
  • Steward until the minor comes of age
  • Verified and witnessed via the BlockWill Ceremony
